We live in a culture that speaks of death as our “natural end,” as if “ashes to ashes, dust to dust” were the sign over Disney’s latest theme park. But Scripture declares death to be man’s last enemy, and the Gospel is Jesus’ victory over the grave. It is the pastor’s calling to yank our happy-clappy world back into the house of mourning where the Gospel begins to make sense and where Jesus Christ is restored to His glory as the Christian’s only hope in life and in death.
